Collector’s Edition
It didn’t take me long to realize the esacpe, once again, would’nt work

It’s precious
Very beautiful.
Very tactile and warm.
Vulnerable.
With a lot of melancholy.

Two years I worked on modifying the book into 12 copies of a unique intimate collector’s edition of my book.

It took me a crazy lot of trial and error, sweat and swearing. It was fighting doubts and embracing mistakes.

It became a new work, based on the idea of a field notebook.

I filled the book with selfmade prints, notes, drawings and thoughts.

The prints and drawings are tipped in with triangular corners. Some may remember them as in those old family albums, making you think of the past.

A lot of care was taken on the choice of materials:  tactile Japanese paper for the prints, recycled and torn notebook paper for the drawings, asian ink, various pencils, fine markers.

The leather is so beautiful in its purity, its softnes and its vulnerability that I decided to also make a box for is.

A cardboard box. Handmade by myself, finished by simply writing the title and drawing a little isolated man.

I collaborated with the wonderful Liesbeth Verhelst from ZLQ, designer of beautiful leather handbags . She was volunteering in Kenya with unemployed youngsters: ‘the Buguta Self Help Group’. These tanners made the protective leather jacket for my book, with local goat leather, local thread and an environmental friendly way tanning. They  stitched them by hand! I still cannot believe it :) It was their first order. Very labour intensive.
